Party before the party (New Years)

Last night my husband and I had a party with a few friends and we watched the above movie Coraline we got all cosy on the couch with blankets and hot tea dimmed the lights and embarked on a real adventure in front of our giant flat screen tv, it was better than the movies I tell ya, oh and the movie absolutely great I loved it, although there were times in the movie it got beyond bizarre it was intensely creative none the less and I was loving it. Did I mentioned that we watched it in 3-D? Yeah, we did, we totally nerded out on the couch with those ridiculous looking things on our heads and it was a beautiful thing ladies and gentlemen 3-D is the way to go when watching this movie! I will be adding this to my collection of the beloved dvd collection soon, check it out for your self, especially if you have a creative mind beyond imagination you will love it!!!

E {in} wonderland

This has to be my all time favorite picture from Domino magazine, this describes me perfectly in an alice and wonderland kind of way, which by the way the reason I chose the name of my blog to be e & design wonderland is because I am quite fond of the movie and I love the out of the box imagination of things in the movie and I like to apply that to design like re-purposing things for a one of a kind use that really will really show case the personality of the object rather than fit the normal expectation of the object. My decorating style is a lot bit whimsical mixed with classic and relaxed plus a whole lot of detail and many points of interest otherwise I just get bored. To me this photo has a alice in wonderland relaxed go with the flow feel to it that I just love.

Textile Queen

I love these fabrics I have no idea where I found them but none the less I love them....

Ebay why don't you love me?

First Blueprint then Domino why do all the greats in the magazine world disappear, currently I am bidding on some back issues of Blueprint on ebay and I even got those dang counters that tell you down to the the wire how much time is left in the auction, and I just can't win! I'm freaking out a little can you tell? My love for magazines is a little out of control...I know...maybe they offer MOA class to help me "MOA",  meaning Magazine Obsessions Anonymous, or not....please if you have any tips to help me win COMMENT below asap!

Little White Tree

Found this little cutie and can't wait to make one myself I have a slight obsession with white trees even wooden ones apparently. This is a golden Christmas opportunity so grab some dowel rods cut them slightly larger and taper towards the top also criss crossing them to form a cross hot glue them in the center and just stack alternating every which a way and voila! Oh and don't forget to paint them white and let them completely dry first..wink ;) happy tree creating, below I have finally put my tree up despite my crazy hectic lifestyle..running a business, keeping house, buying Christmas presents which as you can see below I am currently failing at, but don't you worry they will be there Santa is coming to town real soon and he will save me.
My little daily delight of a Christmas tree, my poor husband... and his overly feminine wife makes him suffer yet another year with the white tree adorned with gold bows & pink and silver antique ornaments, ahhh the joy it brings to my life, this is a picture of me below after I saw it lit for the first time. I love Christmas!

Don't I just look so delighted?

Festive Food and Beautiful Pictures

Eye candy for the day.... which by the way got me thinking while I was reading one of my favorite blogs talking about being a prop stylist that it really would be fun to do that one day doesn't the very top photo look even more delicious the way it is arranged? I love it, so festive and fun, I need to add that to the top of my"what I want to be when I grow up" list.

Got it Good

With thanksgiving on the brain I've really been thinking about this song and I love the words
lets all remember to be grateful and realize that we have "Got it good", we really do...Happy Thanksgiving with some words from one of my favorite artists...

Got it Good

If I had one wish
If I had one wish
It would be to be free of this fighting all around
'Cause it's so wrong
And it could be so right
In my heart I know we're here to grow, to love, to give, to learn, to live...
And I believe in miracles
Open up your eyes

Got a soul, got a mind
Got a heart that beats in timeYou've got a smile, got a voice Got the gift of love

*You've got it good
Don't forget how lucky you are*
Darling, darling, use it to connect with everyone

Don't you know we're golden Covered up with mud One day you'll see the truth that we all share the same blood Supposed to love thy neighbour Together we should stand Whatever colour, race or creed
Come on and hold my hand
'Cause I don't differentiate
We're all the same to me

Got a soul, got a mind
Got a heart that beats in time You've got a smile, got a voice Got the gift of love

*You've got it good Don't forget how lucky you are*
Darling, darling, use it to connect with everyone

And it's getting so serious
Crushed my heart in pieces
But I know I'm not alone in wanting peace Not alone
And if you feel what I feel
Raise your hands with me

Got a soul, got a mind
Got a heart that beats in time You've got a smile, got a voice Got the gift of love

*You've got it good Don't forget how lucky you are*
Darling, darling, use it to connect with everyone

Got a soul, got a mind
Got a heart that beats in time You've got a smile, got a voice Got the gift of love

*You've got it good Don't forget how lucky you are*
Darling, darling, thank you for the moments that we had

New Moon

Two words NEW MOON. For those of you who saw it last night and sat in a line in the freezing cold for two and half hours before show time, hello, so worth it. Last night was rather an eventful evening while standing in line I had my Starbucks peppermint hot chocolate in one hand and a faithful rice crispy in the other and after fifteen minutes they were both frozen and no good at that point so I decided to be-friend some girls standing next to me and they challenged me to a game of yahtzee while we listened to tunes from back in the day...shameful as this is to admit we listened to a little Mmbop yes we did and it was fabulous sitting in the parking lot on the freezing cold ground (next time there will be a blanket involved in this) for hours while we anticipated and mind you, sacrificed being in the warm!.......Well?.... was it worth it I THINK SO YES, funny as it is I'm not even one of the real Twilight fanatics but because there were so many that were I was forced to get my butt out there and freeze too! And so glad I did by the way...

PS-I love you husband you are better than Edward for standing by my side the whole time!

La La Loving This

Check out this Craigslist find turned chalkboard, the frame was gold and dull but with a fresh coat of white paint it has to be one of the cutest chalkboards I've ever seen... I must go on a search myself now I have to have one of these in my house. Nothing like another diy project gone fabulous! If only I had been the one to snag this, *sigh*, I guess there will be others. Happy Craigslisting! I think I found this pic via design*sponge, forgive me it's been in my design file for awhile waiting to be blogged about.

Photography 101: The Challenge

I'm afraid it's time...time to read this baby from front to cover and learn anything and everything I can about the amazing surprise gift that my husband got me last year! While shopping I was in line returning some goods and my husband said that he would switch on and off in the line with me because it was so long because we were going to have to be there for like an hour, meanwhile I'm standing in line and I'm looking around he is no where to be found and by this point I'm starting to get upset that he isn't keeping his end of the bargain and just when I thought I was going to have to leave this line and go find him he came up behind me with a bag and said I have a surprise for you...anyway long story short he said I couldn't look until we got home and I was stunned when I did, there in that bag was the most precious gift anyone could have given me, a Nikon D40 little device that could encompass so many of my life passions all in one (being in nature, design, capturing priceless moments, creativity, and so on) anyways so you get the point but now the time has arrived for me to take the plunge, and so the challenge is on I will read this from front to back, no excuses, and guess what after I'm done I am so going to need practice so take hold you photo loving people and come be my guinea pigs so I can get good at this!

Smokey Eyes For Blondes

This girl gets it just right everytime. Use the steps below for the same effect just using lighter colors more in the gold brown range. Also, use the liner in a darker brown color a little darker on the outer corners like she does above
(<        >) kind of like half triangle parenthesis, then use the a lighter shadow the rest of the way underneath the eye.

Smokey Eyes

Today I'm reminiscent of the days when I used to work for the makeup company Stila. So I thought what would be better then to share with you some insider tips on the classic smokey eye (although I prefer a more subtle smokey eye) (like this one pictured above) using dark browns and greys instead of that sometimes harsh all black look. So here is the step by step I got when I flew out to LA for an exclusive Stila makeup training.

#1- Apply concealer to the eyelid to keep the shadow in place

#2- Apply a loose powder to underneath the eye for any stray shadow to fall (this makes for an easy way to sweep it away when your all done)

Tip* If you have small eyes you really should stay away from black it will only make them appear even smaller.

#3- Line the lash line filling in the spaces between the hairs (avoid a thick line keep it thin and close to the lashes) choosing a color that is brown or grey will be more flattering on most people.

#4-Choose an eyeshadow with three similar shades going from light, to med, to dark.

Tip* When applying the shadow use an eyeshadow brush that is rounded at the top and instead of sweeping the shadow start with the lightest color and press the shadow into the lid.

#5-Start with the lightest color at the lash line and blend pressing the shadow (instead of sweeping) over the eyeliner line and moving up.

#6- Repeat with the medium color above the light and then the darkest color above the medium continuing to press and pack onto the lid. (Make sure you keep the color on the lid only with all three colors making sure not to go into the crease.)

#7-Use a small thin brush to apply the darkest color to the outer corner of the eye and blend.

#8-Apply mascara sweeping the lashes outward toward the outer corner of the eye instead of straight up this gives a lifted look to the eye and makes the eye appear more almond shape.

#9-Sweep away loose powder under the eye with a powder brush.

#10-Lining the inner bottom of the eye is an option the most flattering is when you line the bottom with the shadow for a softer line and then blend.

So that's it your all done! Ready to enjoy a night on the town now?

Yellow Happiness

Today calls for a good old fashion red type writer and lots of yellow just like this room, I mean I'm really feeling it today...and I feel like I have so much to say that I don't say enough so I think I might just find a typewriter and go nuts instead! Life is so full of so many things and experiences and I just feel like I'm so behind sometimes and not to mention a big time perfectionist in a lot of areas of life so yeah pair those together and just see what you get! Exactly my point...looks like I have some catching up to do......but don't fear for me it is coming, it is.

Smitten Over

Every once and again I find a look that just feels like it came from my very own heart, and today this one is it. I'm particularly loving the no laces look on the shoes and well just everything about this entourage.  Completely and prophetically inspired. Somewhere deep inside there is a way I too can just whip an outfit like this up in my head...for now though the focus is on my home and it's outfits if you get where I'm going with this...stay tuned for a more focused Erin on some of my own fashion senses. Happy inspirational outfit today!

Missing home today....

I was going through some of my pictures today and I found this one of Florida..this is where my parents live, it's so beautiful in FL and even in November and December there is tons of sun and it's so green all the time! I miss the weather especially when it snows here and I know it's coming guess I'll have to spend some times indoors looking at this photo to stay sane!

The Count Down

I can't believe it is only 24 days until I become 26! I have no shortage of ideas for what I want for my birthday though...sad huh, I just love so many things and to me "things" are experiences and experiences are what is most important anyway right? So here is one of the things I have my eye on is called "count me healthy jewerly" and it's a bracelet that counts your health goals or whatever goals you want it to count with these small beads that slide from side to side, easy peesy just slide a bead over when you accomplish one of the goals throughout your day. They really have made it easier than ever to keep track of how many glasses of water you are drinking a day or kicking a Dr. Pepper habit (which by the way I need to do)...word has it that this bracelet was featured at this years Grammy Awards as well, so apparently now I really have to have one! Ryan if your reading this I've done the hard work for you honey.

A Un-traditional Halloween

I'm getting into the Halloween spirit at the last minute this year! I decided to forgo the usual carving pumpkins and all the black/orange festivities and instead I planned a Halloween vacation, yes you heard right I said vacation, which is well needed and well deserved! So here's the plans...take a drive to the beautiful St. George, stay in the nicest hotel I can find and go to bed (because it will be too late to do anything)! Wake up, visit one of my husband and I's favorite breakfast places in town and chill in the wonderful 70 degree weather all day sipping pina coladas by the pool, celebrate Halloween night by driving up to see the show "Thriller" at Tuacahn, then come back and relax from all the fun! Happy Halloween Vacation to us! Happy Halloween to you :)

Anticipating the release of...

Coco before Chanel starring the lovely Audrey Tatou I can't wait to see this movie releasing on September 25 in select theaters. Hope I get lucky and it lands in a theater somewhere around here! This is a story about a girl named Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel, who begins her life as a headstrong orphan, and through an extrodianary journey becomes a legend who embodies the modern woman and becomes a timeless symbol of success, freedom, and style. I can't think of a more inspiring story!

Bella Cucina

Truly at the heart of me I find that small quant spaces make me feel quite at home, and that is why I have picked this picture from the Domino archive small and cozy and just right for me. It reminds me of a paris kitchen as far as size goes and not lacking on the personality... hello. I would go as far as to say that I have found my dream kitchen in this photo...

My Design For Glade

I am so excited to share with you this scented oil candle tin I designed for Glade! This tin is the clean linen scent, so I tried to envision something fun with clean crisp colors that would make me think of fresh clean linens and this is what I came up with. I have also been working on a couple of designs for Coca-Cola's 2010 summer collector can series as well that I will try to post. I appreciate comments so share what you think I'd love to hear from you......

An Attitude of Gratitude

The past few weeks have been crazy in my world! But, today I had some pretty big break throughs when it comes to doing business and I am very happy with the progress that I have made. I am also very grateful for all that I have and the experiences I am fortunate enough to take part in. So cheers to a productive life in all the ups and the downs! This photo is a perfect reflection of the mood I am in right now, happy and upbeat and extremely thankful if I had this at my house today I would take a few minutes to relax and finish reading Eclipse, ya, I know, I'm just now only reading the third book...{im over it} great book by the way don't know how it will play out in the end but New Moon is my favorite so far......(pic found via absolutelybeautifulthings)

This just in...

This is the new divas poster painted by Maximilian Wiedemann for the vh1's ad campaign which by the way I am in heart with and Adele which is what I call music perfection, she's pretty much one of my favorite artists in a close second to Nelly Furtado, whats more to love art and music combined equals heaven. If any of you know where I can possible buy this poster, {holla}

Cluttered Thoughts

Oh how I wish that this was my work space today..with all the stresses of running a business sometimes your life can feel cluttered and unorganized but not in this picture I could see myself feeling as calm as a summer breeze. Found via House of Turqoise.
